Last Night Made Me Proud To Be In Music Production

Last night I was a guest of the Music Producers Guild at the MPG 2012 Awards. It was a night to honour those behind the glass, in fact one of the awards was to the ‘unsung hero’. I think the truth is for most producers and engineers, we are often the unsung heroes period.

I don’t think anyone would suggest for one minute that without us recording artists wouldn’t have the success they do - but I think it’s a fair thing to say that they with us they have a better chance of success in the first place.

What good studios, engineers and producers do is create an environment for great talent to freely flourish; like a gardener carefully tending a plant; he didn’t create the plant, but he does make sure it’s as healthy and beautiful as it can be.

Last night the studios, engineers and producers behind such successes as Adele, U2, Foo Fighters and many many more were honoured. To see so many humble people taking awards for their hard work made me proud to be in music production. We may not be curing cancer, but the world would be a lot less colourful and beautiful without our creative efforts.

Thank you MPG for all you do to support both established and emerging talent.
