Mellowmuse SATV - I'm In Love

I recently posted the news of the Mellowmuse SATV plug-in, suggesting it may be an alternative to HEAT for those of us not able to stretch to Pro Tools HD or indeed HD Native!

Tonight I have had the first chance to play with it, after about 30 minutes of trying it on bass, acoustic, electric, voice and across the Master buss, I have to say I'm impressed.

I'm fortunate enough to have a lot of plug-ins and I have similar ones such as Tape Channel, Reel Tape Saturation etc. but none have impressed me as much as the SATV - this one is so gorgeous.

Mellowmuse say this; 'SATV is analogue modelled saturation plug-in with four preset models, perfect for adding harmonic depth and richness to any material.

The inspiration for the four preset models were:
A - Transistor
B - Transformer
C - Tube
D - Tape'

My advice is download the demo and try it on your mixes, it makes bass guitars sound all warm and thick, like a chocolate milkshake, gives electric guitars body and acoustic guitars presence. This one could become my go-to plug-in!

Download it now and let me know what you think of the new Mellowmuse SATV.

could you make a video tutorial about this one?
it would be awesome.

it could also be awsome if you could make one for the ATA (the autodelay comp) they make as the tutorials they show are bit confusing specially with the AUX compensation

thx for comment bout this plug, have been eyeing it for a while but was still indecisive bout it.

I downloaded it yesterday and bought the license today! I really like the sound improvement and the simplicity: just four buttons and three knobs. There is an instant effect. For me it works not on every sound, but when I use it, it makes me happy.

At first i didn't get plugs like Heat and this one. I just couldn't visualize the global control for distortion since in the real world no such knob exist on a console. If turning drive meant aging the console globally then yes that would make sense. However, with this plug i get it. You can turn group off add distortion to each track as you see fit.Turn group on and bypass all for A/B comparison or for driving the mix by subtle amounts. Now that is huge. Now if you could adjust more than one setting per track. Let's say tube and tape and have them in different groups then pull up one global control to control the multiple setting. Man o man.

does not seem to work on an instrument track however....

just a note that it's worth comparing to a demo of Slate Digital VCC before committing to either.
I'm still undecided on both.

Digidesign's Reel Tape Saturation very good as well. Was toying around with it and it ticks lots of boxes too. Bit worried, one blogger mentioned that SATV doesn't function on instrument track...heaven forbid!!

I have both and prefer SATV. Not true about instrument tracks, using it on Addictive Drums as we speak.

Thanks Russ - for the tip.

Bought it. I really dig how it's bringing my drum tracks to life.
It's easy to make subtle changes to tracks with the simple controls - great for a greenhorn like myself.

For anyone wanting another sample, there's one here - cranked the drive for more of an affected sound.

Hey Russ, what is the hammond sound on the video. Is that the regular digi db33? If so, would you share your settings. I really like that sound. Thanks
