Das Pro Tools Transportfeld kann mehr als man im ersten Augenblick erwartet. Die meisten von uns nutzen Play und Record aber es gibt im Verborgenen einige Funktionen die es lohnt zu kennen.

1.  Deaktiviert man den "Conductor" oder "Tempo Ruler Enable", kann man per "T"-Taste das gewünschte Tempo einspielen indem man zuerst in die Tempoanzeige klickt und dann munter mit der "T"-Taste auf der Computer Tastatur Tempo macht.

2. Klick mit der Rechten Maus-Taste auf "Play" ermöglicht:

• Halbe Geschwindigkeit
• Playback Bereitschaft
• Loop
• Dynamic Transport

3. Klick mit der Rechten Maus-Taste auf "Record" ermöglicht unterschiedliche Aufnahme Modi:

• Normal
• Loop
• Destructive
• QuickPunch
• TrackPunch (Pro Tools HD)
• Destructive Punch (Pro Tools HD)

Bei Midi-Loop Aufnahme gibt es jedich eine Ausnahme: Hier kommt die "Midi-Merge" Taste zum Einsatz! Nicht die Loop-Record Funktion. 

4. Doppel-Klick auf die "Metronom"-Taste öffnet das Metronom Dialog-Fenster.

5. Das Aktivieren der "Wait-For-Note" Taste ermöglicht die Aufnahme von Midi ohne Einzählen usw.-Die Aufnahme startet ab der ersten Midi Note.

Gestern nahm Avid Stellung zu den, in der vorigen Woche, gestellten Kernfragen unseres Blogs. Dem folgenden Volltext könnt Ihr Avid's Haltung zu Bedenken und Anliegen von Pro Tools Anwendern entnehmen  - und Euch den Reim darauf machen:

Q: Our recent survey of the Pro Tools community gave Pro Tools 10 a massive 86% approval rating, and yet of the same people surveyed 86% said the cost of Pro Tools was putting them off buying it. How does Avid think they got this so wrong, particularly in respect to upgrade pricing? Is this a case of a brilliant set of product managers and engineers been let down by accountants?

The question here is one of value, and Pro Tools 10 brings a ton of it. As your statistic illustrates, users and the press are saying that Pro Tools 10 is one of, if not the best version ever. We understand that professionals have to make tough choices in the current economic environment, but we feel once people use PT10 they will realize the value in how it affects their productivity. That's why we are making Pro Tools 10 and Pro Tools HD 10 available as a free trial for existing customers, so they can gauge the value for themselves and decide if upgrading is the right choice for them and their business.

Another great option for our HD customers is to get on our Standard Support Program. Currently, if you are on an Avid support plan, you receive a year of maintenance (tech support, etc.) and free upgrades from the time of purchase. So if you were on this plan when you purchased Pro Tools HD 9, you would be eligible for a complimentary upgrade to Pro Tools HD10.  As many customers did not know about this plan, we have made it available to Pro Tools HD 9 customers retroactively. Any customer on Pro Tools HD 9 is eligible to purchase the Avid Standard Support Plan for $599 before December 31, 2011. Once you purchase this from your dealer, you will be eligible to receive your Pro Tools HD 10 upgrade as part of the program. You will also have 12 months of maintenance, and any future upgrades within the 12 months will be included.

At the end of the 12 months, you can renew the program and get future upgrades and support. So for less than $50 a month, you never have to worry about software upgrades or support pricing again.

Q: A significant number of users see Pro Tools 10 as an interim measure until we finally get 64 bit, in fact Pro Tools 10 was described by Avid themselves as 'a stepping stone'. Isn't the price to upgrade from Pro Tools 9, which was only launched 11 months ago and which cost many users around $300 minimum to buy, disproportionate in a cost versus benefit analysis? Especially if a 64 bit version is coming as the next major release.

To be clear, Pro Tools 10 is a major feature release, not an interim release.  In fact, for many of our customers it is the most significant release in many years. The addition of Clip Gain, Disk Cache, new rendered AudioSuite workflows, and the inclusion of a premium Channel Strip will save customers time, open up new workflows, and help them focus on getting the best sounding mixes. 

Of course, we serve a broad variety of audio professionals and it’s up to each one to make their own cost vs. benefit analysis, so again, we’re offering the 14-day free trial.

In addition to the great feature and workflow updates to Pro Tools 10, it also serves as a bridge from 32 to 64bit architecture, supporting both the old and the new.  Because RTAS and TDM could never operate in a 64bit environment, we built in the capability for Pro Tools 10 to support the 32bit architecture of RTAS, and TDM, as well as the 64bit ready architecture of AAX Native and AAX DSP. The benefit of rolling out compatibility with 64bit OS’s in this way is that our TDM customers and plug-in developers have a clear roadmap to 64bit and a relatively easy transition to the new platform. By comparison, if we released a version optimized for 64bit OS’s at AES, none of the 3^rd party developers would be ready, and our TDM customers would be shut out of some of the great features in this release.

Q: The majority of users understand that the decoupling of Avid hardware from software would mean that the software subsidy would vanish, however can Avid not appreciate that the increasing cost of upgrades, occurring year-on-year, gives many Pro Tools users, including professional users, uncertainty about an ongoing commitment to the Pro Tools platform?

On the contrary, the product introductions over last 18-months are a clear signal that Avid is committed to the professional and delivering innovative solutions to their problems at a faster pace than ever. While the aggressive pace of product development will pose challenges to some users, it has its rewards.  Pro Tools 10, Pro Tools|HDX, Pro Tools|HD Native, HD Series I/O, and 3^rd generation Mbox are all examples of releases that help customers overcome production hurdles and achieve higher sound quality to get better results, faster.

And again, getting on the Pro Tools HD Standard Support Plan mitigates any issues around upgrade pricing. $599 per year and you have every upgrade available for less than $2 per day - that’s less than a cup of coffee. To put it another way - if it only costs $2 per day to use Pro Tools, how much of a return on your investment do you get? This is the heart and soul of many of our customer’s businesses and one of the biggest drivers of their income. Hopefully the expense pays for itself in just a few minutes of work each day.  

Q: Five years ago Avid stock was at nearly $40 a share, yet today it languishes at around $7 a share; does Avid not think that right now the best thing it could do is cultivate a loyal following? With that in mind we ran a second survey asking 'What Would Tempt You To Buy Pro Tools 10 Now? of those surveyed over 50% said that a 50% discount on upgrades for 30 days or an agreed amnesty not to charge for the next upgrade would make them buy now. If this is the case is Avid prepared to reconsider the pricing of this upgrade?

Our loyal following is our greatest asset. The passionate engagement on user communities like the DUC, Gearslutz, and the AIR Users Blog are testaments to this loyalty, and we take that very seriously. Bei Media Composer geht die Entwicklung aber offensichtlich ganz ohne Probleme voran, oder...............................? 

In diesem Video erklärt James Ishmaev Young den Aufbau, Materialien und Funktion des sE Reflexion Filters;

Russ hat kürzlich auch einen Vergleichstest dazu veranstaltet: Close-Up Vocals, Medium Vocals und Rock-Röhre aufgenommen ohne Filter, mit Billig-Filter und mit dem Reflexion-Filter;

Fazit: Die besten Ergebnisse lasen sich eindeutig mit dem sE Filter erzielen; Raum-Ambienz wird deutlich reduziert und die Aufnahmen wirken wesentlich direkter. Das schlechteste Ergebnis erzielte mit Abstand der Billig-Filter der nicht nur hinsichtlich der Ambienzen und Reflektionen völlig wirkungslos war, sondern zu allem Überfluss auch noch ungewollte Mitten deutlich akzentuierte.

Die Reihung lautet: 1. sE Reflexion Filter; 2. No Filter (!!); 3. Billig-Filter; Details zu Russ's Test (in Englisch halt, wie immer).
